Here’s a random little thing.
I lay no claim to any poetry ability, but the world can have this anyway.
Also, I’m off on a family holiday for the next couple of weeks, meaning the kettle won’t be boiled for a little bit, but I will be back!
In the meantime, if you enjoy my writing, and think someone else might also, you’ve got a bit of a breather to tell them about it! …After all, right now I’m just a ‘little’ creator, but the bigger you help me get, the more pride you get to feel about how you “discovered me way back when…”
In the shadow of meritocracy, success is the opposite of laziness
In the shadow of that merit, you’re sick because you don’t eat your vegetables
In the shadow of that merit, money buys love
In the shadow of that merit, it’s you against me
In the shadow of that merit, the rent you can’t afford means someone’s doing alright
…The glass ceiling you can’t break means we’re equal
…That fine trickle—something unpleasant?—down one side of your face and onto your shoulder, feels like the economy humming
But lo, it’s gone; the dampness evaporated in this, unseasonably warm, weather
In the shadow of that merit, we are hardly human
Because the light that casts that shadow was us.

Have a good break.
And don't forget to eat your vegetables.
Oh - you can claim some poetic ability after that. Lovely and a brutal reflection of our reality. Enjoy the family holiday.
